ANC 3/4G-05 Updates 9/24/24

Hi Folks,

Here are the latest ANC updates:

Our next meeting is on Oct. 21. Then there are just two more meetings this year. We will hear from Kathy Patterson and her team about the DCPD staffing audit that was just completed.

Two worthy candidates are running for my seat: Mark Rooney and Karrenthya Simmons. Please look out for them and get to know them.

At the Sept. 23rd meeting the ANC unanimously passed a resolution urging more community input going forward in the Civic Core process. Requests for proposals are in, DMPED is evaluating them, and we may not learn what those plans are until the New Year. Thanks for Chair Gore for crafting the resolution and accepting my recommendations, Vice Chair Gosselin for hiss additions, as well as members of the community who added helpful ideas at the meeting. That resolution will be posted soon.

You can find all ANC resolutions here

I would like to implement an annual ANC arts grant that supports creative projects in our neighborhood. If you care about the arts in our community please get in touch. There may be a place for you to help and serve in a purely positive, fun way.

Thanks to Art, Sound, Language for hosting their concerts on the Avenue—if you haven't been, check them out. They have some concert videos on their instagram page.

Do you have kids in school? If they are in DCPS their teachers still do not have a contract. Do you work without a contract? Talk to the teachers in your life, your school administrators and ask how you can support them. Urge the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor of Education, and the Chancellor of DCPS to do right by the people that serve your kids every day. This ANC's resolution, a citywide petition, and constant calls to address this from the WTU have been disregarded.

I've reached out to our constituent services team about dead cell phone service in our neighborhood. Please let me know if you're experiencing that same challenge.

The Presidential election is underway. ANCs are nonpartisan but Home rule, which the ANCs operate within, is under attack. The only protection from interference is DC Statehood.

If you're looking for ways to support DC Statehood and out of state campaigns be sure to cross check your support with the DC Statehood Scorecard. "No donations without representation."

The League of Women Voters have countless ways to get involved as well.

If you would like a DC Statehood yard sign, please get in touch. I've got about 100 to share.

Cate Atkinson is leading a tremendous oral history project and needs high schoolers to help. Here is the link

Goods for Good is also looking for high school help

Be sure to read and subscribe to Councilmember Matt Frumin's newsletter.

Thank you and as always if you have any ideas, suggestions, or need help—please get in touch.
