ANC 3/4G-05 Updates, May 10

Neighbors and Friends,

This coming Monday at 7pm the ANC will meet online

I will offer a DC Statehood resolution

Several speakers will be at the meeting to explain the necessity of statehood:

-Noah Wills with DC Statehood Compact and pledge

-James Bubar with the DC Democrats Statehood Committee

-a representative from DC Statehood PAC

The clearing of the GW demonstrations happened Wednesday morning of the same day Rep. Comer called Mayor Bowser to a hearing on campus protests in the city. Mayor Bowser claims there is no connection to the events. No matter where you stand on student protests, without statehood a Kentuckian with no connection to any of us is meddling in our city. Comer was elected with 59,977 less votes than Washingtonian supporters of the 2016 Statehood referendum.

Our Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton wrote "Ahead of the eighth anti-DC home rule hearing in the 118th Congress, Iā€™m calling for an end to the unseemly, paternalistic, wasteful Republican fixation on D.C."

I hope you'll join her in demanding the same.

Have you signed the League of Women Voters statehood petition? Please do.

Education:

At the high school level, Jackson Reed and the ACLU have reached a settlement arising from complaints from the Arab Student Union.

Next Tuesday May 14, the Ward 3 EdNet will meet at Guapos in Tenleytown on the second floor at 7pm. It's a great space and great group, join them to understand ward and citywide education issues.

Lafayette Elementary also welcomes a new principal, Ms. Prall, set to start next year. Welcome!

Other ANC Updates:

The zoning board hearing for the Chevy Chase Civic Core and the Connecticut Avenue corridor will continue on May 23rd at 4pm.

Please reach out with any questions, comments, concerns, or help you may need.

Thank you all,

Peter
