Do you know the history of Fort Reno? (We should)
The Fort Reno History Exhibit Tour is on May 6. Learn about the displacement of Black residents in Friendship Heights and surrounding areas. Historian Neil Flanagan and oral historian Cory Shaw Jr. will take a deep-dive into the stories of Reno City and Broad Branch, plus discussing the exhibit now displayed in the Pepco substation windows. The exhibit is up for the next few months, but these two special tours will provide new information and nuance on the neighborhood history of Fort Reno, Reno City, and the Chesapeake House.

Please read this article by Theresa Vargas on the desperate need for therapists in DCPS. The Mayor, Chancellor of Education, Deputy Mayor for Education, and entire Council need to hear your call for fully funded public schools. If you're passionate about the future of our community and our schools get involved with Ward 3 EDNet and fill out my constituent form indicating you would like to pursue this further.
The lack of adequate funds for kids, schools, teachers, and enrichment programming all but guarantees the crime that many in our ANC have been concerned about. 16 year olds are not naturally inclined to carjackings. That child who resorted to that action was brought to that point by a failure of our community. If schools aren't funded as they should be, we decide to continue that failure. In other words: "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel it's warmth."
The work of Washington Interfaith Network is worth exploring and learning from. I attended a meeting in Ward 7 and was moved by the cross city connections and the positive movement for a more just DC. WIN has another action coming up on May 11th with Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto at Foundry UMC on 16th St. near Dupont Circle.
